Walking Holiday Package
Walking Holiday Package
Discover the spectacular Monti Sibillini National Park and the surrounding Le Marche countryside during this guided walking holiday.
This year for the first time, in collaboration with Agricamp Picobello, we are offering a walking holiday in the Sibilini Mountain range. The first is to be held at the start of autumn as the weather, and also nature, is at its best at this time of year. Each day you will be guided through a different part of the glorious Sibillini Mountains where you can enjoy breathtaking views and spectacular scenery whilst exploring the natural beauty of this outstanding area. The holiday is ideal for people who want an escorted walking tour in a small group with like-minded people.
The walks will be guided by Rob, from Agricamp Picobello, who is a qualified outdoor instructor and an approved member of the Sports Institute Europe. He is a real enthusiast and has vast mountaineering experience, having climbed many high peaks, such as Kilimanjaro, Gran Paradiso, Jungfrau and many more. Trekking through rugged terrain is his speciality and he has been a guide in the Sibillini Mountains since 2004.
Rob has hand selected the walks for this trip starting with a relatively easy walk on the first day and building up to a 7.5 hour, 1,200 metre ascent on the last day of walking – a good challenge for all levels.
If you would like to join us for this fun and challenging week please register your interest by emailing
info@hotelleone.it. We require a minimum number of 6 people to proceed, the numbers are limited and we expect it to be popular so please register your interest early as possible.

Rob and also a chance to get to know each other.
Day 2 Castelluccio
Everybody meets for breakfast at Hotel Leone to build yourselves up for your first days walking.
Today’s walk takes you on a round trip from Castelluccio, through the valley “Valle “Canatra”, at the end of which is a short climb through the woods just under the top of Monte Pizzo di Croce. Following the track, again through the woods, to reach (and admire) the view over the high plateau “Piano Grande”, the biggest doline in Europe. The track leads from here back to Castelluccio.
Option: If the group is fit enough we can climb Il Pizzo di Croce (1853 mtr.) adding an extra hour to the walk
Walking time: approx: 3 hours (without Pizzo della Croce)
Ascent: 440 metres Descent: 440 metres
Easy walk
In the evening, weather permitting, a BBQ will be held by the swimming pool at Hotel Leone before retiring for a good nights sleep.
Day 3 Montagna dei Fiori
Again breakfast at Hotel Leone before departure for the days walking.
Today takes you on a beautiful walk south of Ascoli Piceno. The starting point lies at 1,385 metres where there are magnificent views. The first part of the walk, after a short climb on a grassy slope, leads along a steep limestone ridge where we take a lunch stop at a small lake (maybe dried up). Moving further south, facing Monte Foltrona, in the far distance the highest mountain in the Apennines “The Corno Grande” part of the National Park Gran Sasso (2,912 mtr.) can be seen. After about 40 minutes the most serious part of the walk is about to begin with a 300 metre steep climb to Monte Girella (1,800 metre). After a break on the top we make our way down for approximately 1 hour before arriving at the start point.
Walking time: approx: 5.5 hours
Ascent: 710 metres Descent: 710 metres
Average walk
In the evening of day three you will visit a local vineyard where you will sample their wines together with a degustation of meats, salamis, cheeses and preserves with each wine tasted.
Day 4 At Leisure
Breakfast at your respective accommodations.
Today is a free day where you can choose what you want to do, whether that’s a trip to Ascoli Piceno, a beautiful town built of travertine from the surrounding mountains, a visit to the local olive oil making factory or bicycle museum, rock climbing, a guided tour of Montelparo, a few hours bike riding or simply just to relax at your accommodation.
Day 5 Monte Amandola – Castel Manardo
Breakfast at Hotel Leone followed by the days walking.
Today’s walk lies in the heart of the National Park Monti Sibillini. A fairly steep climb begins right behind the Rifugio Citta di Amandola on the east face of Monte Amandola. A small plateau is reached after around one hour and from here it’s easy walking towards Monte Acuto. Then a short climb leads to the turning point to Monte Castel Manardo. After climbing some small peaks we follow the ridge admiring the view. The Adriactic Sea lies just in front of us and looking south is Monte Priora, one of the highest mountains in the Park. Finally, an easy 45 minute descent following the same track as on the way up.
Walking time: approx: 5.5 hours
Ascent: 914 metres. Descent: 914 metres
Average walk
In the evening a communal dinner at Hotel Leone before retiring.
Day 6 Capo Tenna
Breakfast at Hotel Leone followed by today’s walk - a spectacular walk with fantastic views on the dramatic North Face of Monte Sibilla. The start of the walk leads through the “Gola dell’Infernaccio where we can see how the Tenna River pushes through the narrow limestone gorge and hear the impressive, roaring sound of all this water coming down. Our first aim is the monastery San Leonardo. This building was constructed by one man (Father Pietro Lavini) during the last 4 decades and he has become famous for what he has done here in this remote area. More serious hiking is required and after 45 minutes a new challenge lies ahead. It’s the south slope of Monte Priora, a very steep and under 45 degree angle to be dealt with for half an hour. After having reached the highest point (1,900 metres) it’s time for a well deserved break. But we’re not there yet! Walking high above the Tenna River we can see the steep and rocky face far down below ending in the valley. There is more than 3 hours before we return to the gorge and then it’s only a short walk back to the car.
Walking time: approx: 7.5 hours
Ascent: 1,200 metres Descent: 1,200 metres
