Suitable for all abilities: Watercolours and Sketching Techniques
As an experienced, professional painter, Peter will cover all the techniques necessary to produce exciting, vibrant watercolours depicting the rich and diverse landscapes and architecture of this area of Italy.
As a hands-on tutor, he will also incorporate a wide variety of sketching techniques, and help you to bridge the gap between simple, on-site pencil drawings, loose line and wash sketches and full-blown watercolours. During the week, we will paint out on location 'en plein air', dabble in some 'urban sketching' and make use of the fully-equipped art studio, where we will explore all aspects of the medium.
All abilities are welcome to join this watercolour adventure, from complete beginner upwards. While there will always being an emphasis on basic, core techniques, participants will also be encouraged, as spontaneously as possible, to explore more advanced ideas and methods, appropriate to the group and the subjects we are working on. The most important thing is to enjoy the unique location, relax and have fun with the medium.
Peter Woolley has been a professional watercolour artist for 34 years, and is a well-travelled painter, having spent many years running workshops on cruise ships sailing to all corners of the world. He is the author of two books ('Drawing Towards Watercolour' and 'Hills and Mountains in Watercolour'), has made several appearances on TV (The Painting and Drawing Channel), and is a Professional Associate of the SAA. He is frequently invited to demonstrate his techniques to, and run workshops with, art groups and societies across the UK.
As a keen traveller and sketcher, he has always been fascinated by the sweeping landscapes and diverse architecture of Italy. He is looking forward to the opportunity of sharing his watercolour techniques with a group of like-minded travellers and artists, of all abilities, in a relaxed and inspiring environment.
